After nominations close on June 4, 2010 individual nominators and nominees will be notified that their nominations have been received.

The jury will then review the submissions and select a winner. In making their selection, jurors will consider the following aspects of the artist's work: originality, sense of evolution, growing maturity, continuing experimentation, impact upon audiences, and/or influence upon younger artists.

For the purposes of this prize, a professional director is defined as one who, in the preceding 10 years, has made a significant creative contribution to no fewer than three noteworthy theatre projects in Canada and is at a point in his or her career where the recognition and resources associated with the prize will make a significant difference, allowing and encouraging the artist to go further in the pursuit of his or her craft.

Whether he or she has reached that "point" derives from a sense that the exceptional quality of the artist's work has made its mark within a relatively recent period of time; and that by virtue of its impact on audiences and fellow artists now, is moving Canadian theatre forward.

A national jury of four distinguished members of the Canadian theatre community is chosen annually to select the Siminovitch Prize recipient. The Jury Chair, who is approved each year by the Founders' Committee, leads the selection of the jury and presides over the deliberations.

The jury will select a short list of nominees for final consideration. The short-listed nominees will be announced in a news release prior to the announcement of the recipient. The number of short listed nominees may vary annually.

The award recipient will be notified in early October in order to ensure sufficient time to designate the protégé in collaboration with the Jury Chair. The jury will issue a statement explaining their choice of the recipient.

The recipient and protégé will be invited to the award presentation as the guests of the Siminovitch Prize. During the award presentation, the recipient will be expected to address the audience.
