Le prix sera d\u00e9cern\u00e9 le 26 octobre prochain.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">Les 5 finalistes ont \u00e9t\u00e9 s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9s parmi les 59 metteurs en sc\u00e8ne qui avaient \u00e9t\u00e9 mis en nomination, soit le plus grand nombre de candidatures jamais soumises \u00e0 ce prix. Les finalistes sont : Lois Brown (St. John\u2019s, T.-N.), Martin Faucher (Montr\u00e9al, QC), \u00c9ric Jean (Montr\u00e9al, QC), Jillian Keiley (St. John\u2019s, T.-N.) et Alisa Palmer (Toronto, ON).<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00ab Le jury a \u00e9t\u00e9 impressionn\u00e9 par l\u2019ampleur du talent des candidats de cette ann\u00e9e, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Leonard McHardy, pr\u00e9sident du jury du Prix Siminovitch de th\u00e9\u00e2tre 2004. Nous avons constat\u00e9 avec beaucoup d\u2019int\u00e9rjt la grande diversit\u00e9 des styles de travail dans l\u2019ensemble du pays. Les cinq metteurs en sc\u00e8ne que nous avons s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9s illustrent d\u2019ailleurs parfaitement la diversit\u00e9 de ces styles. \u00bb<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">Outre Leonard McHardy (Toronto, ON), le jury \u00e9tait compos\u00e9 de Marie-H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Falcon (Montr\u00e9al, QC), cofondatrice, directrice g\u00e9n\u00e9rale et directrice artistique du Festival de Th\u00e9\u00e2tre des Am\u00e9riques; Robert Wallace (Toronto, ON), dramaturge et professeur d\u2019anglais et d\u2019\u00e9tudes d\u2019art dramatique \u00e0 l\u2019universit\u00e9 York; Mary Walsh (St. John\u2019s, T.-N.), metteur en sc\u00e8ne, dramaturge et com\u00e9dienne; et Bob White, (Calgary, AB), directeur artistique de la compagnie Alberta Theatre Projects de Calgary.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">Les jur\u00e9s ont \u00e9valu\u00e9 les facettes suivantes de l\u2019\u0153uvre de chaque candidat : originalit\u00e9, souci d\u2019\u00e9volution, maturit\u00e9 croissante, exp\u00e9rimentation continue, accueil du public et influence exerc\u00e9e chez les plus jeunes artistes. Ils ont \u00e9galement tent\u00e9 de d\u00e9terminer si l\u2019artiste en \u00e9tait \u00e0 une \u00e9tape de sa carri\u00e8re o\u00f9 la reconnaissance et les ressources li\u00e9es au prix pourraient avoir un effet marquant en l\u2019encourageant et en lui donnant les moyens de poursuivre son \u0153uvre.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00ab Au nom de BMO Groupe financier, j\u2019aimerais f\u00e9liciter les metteurs en sc\u00e8ne exceptionnels s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9s comme finalistes du Prix Siminovitch de th\u00e9\u00e2tre 2004. En 2004, elle a mis en sc\u00e8ne le spectaculaire Barred Bard Chick Tells All in Shakespeare\u2019s Women, de Berni Stapleton, ainsi que Funny Things Have Happened in My Life, de Lizz Pickard. Elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 directrice artistique de la RCA Theatre Company, o\u00f9 elle a produit Still Alive, d\u2019Andy Jones, ainsi que les premi\u00e8res \u0153uvres professionnelles de Jill Keiley. Elle a aussi mis en sc\u00e8ne plusieurs spectacles de Rick Mercer \u00e0 ses d\u00e9buts. Lois a \u00e9tudi\u00e9 la mise en sc\u00e8ne \u00e0 l\u2019universit\u00e9 de l\u2019Alberta, dont elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 dipl\u00f4m\u00e9e en 1977. De retour chez elle, elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 influenc\u00e9e par l\u2019exp\u00e9rimentation et la passion des compagnies Neighbourhood Dance Works et Codco. En 2000, le film The Bingo Robbers, qu\u2019elle a \u00e9crit et r\u00e9alis\u00e9 en collaboration avec Barry Newhook, lui a valu plusieurs prix de mise en sc\u00e8ne et d\u2019\u00e9criture, mais les pr\u00e9sentations en direct la fascinent toujours et c\u2019est au th\u00e9\u00e2tre qu\u2019elle r\u00e9alise la plupart de ses exp\u00e9riences.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>Martin Faucher<\/b><br \/>\nMartin Faucher est dipl\u00f4m\u00e9 de l\u2019Option-th\u00e9\u00e2tre du C\u00e9gep de Saint-Hyacinthe et il a mis de nombreuses pi\u00e8ces en sc\u00e8ne au cours des 15 derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es. Il a collabor\u00e9 pendant huit ans avec le Centre des auteurs dramatiques (CEAD), dont il a \u00e9t\u00e9 vice-pr\u00e9sident pendant trois ans. Il fait \u00e9galement partie du conseil d\u2019administration du Fonds Gratien-G\u00e9linas, une fondation qui se consacre \u00e0 la promotion de la nouvelle g\u00e9n\u00e9ration d\u2019auteurs dramatiques qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois. En outre, Martin enseigne r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement dans les \u00e9coles de th\u00e9\u00e2tre du Qu\u00e9bec. Ces derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es, il a mis en sc\u00e8ne, dans divers th\u00e9\u00e2tres de Montr\u00e9al, des pi\u00e8ces de Carole Fr\u00e9chette, Lise Vaillancourt, Jasmine Dub\u00e9, Pierre-Michel Tremblay, Sylvain Coron et Larry Tremblay, en plus de revisiter des \u0153uvres de Moli\u00e8re, Corneille, Claudel, Albee, McDonagh et, plus r\u00e9cemment, Charles Ludlam.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>Eric Jean<\/b><br \/>\n\u00c9ric Jean a enseign\u00e9 au Mexique et \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cole nationale de th\u00e9\u00e2tre du Canada, dont il a \u00e9t\u00e9 adjoint \u00e0 la direction artistique pendant trois ans. Il a \u00e9galement fait partie de comit\u00e9s consultatifs pour le Conseil des Arts du Canada, le Festival de th\u00e9\u00e2tre des Am\u00e9riques et le Th\u00e9\u00e2tre du Rideau Vert. Au printemps 2004, il a \u00e9t\u00e9 nomm\u00e9 directeur artistique et codirecteur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral du Th\u00e9\u00e2tre de Quat\u2019Sous \u00e0 Montr\u00e9al. Metteur en sc\u00e8ne de m\u00e9tier, il s\u2019interroge sans rel\u00e2che sur ses m\u00e9thodes de cr\u00e9ation. Ses prochaines productions prendront l\u2019affiche \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cole nationale de th\u00e9\u00e2tre du Canada, au Th\u00e9\u00e2tre du Bic et au Trident.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\" class=\"translation-block\"><b>Jillian Keiley<\/b><br>Jillian Keiley, la fondatrice et directrice artistique de la compagnie Artistic Fraud of Newfoundland, a \u00e9t\u00e9 la laur\u00e9ate du prix John-Hirsch de 1998 du Conseil des Arts du Canada et a \u00e9t\u00e9 nomm\u00e9e artiste de la rel\u00e8ve de l\u2019ann\u00e9e 1996 par le Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council. R\u00e9cemment, elle a dirig\u00e9 une com\u00e9die musicale des ann\u00e9es 1930, Pal Joey , ainsi que la premi\u00e8re canadienne de Diana of Dobson\u2019s , de Cicely Hamilton, au Shaw Festival. Elle a aussi dirig\u00e9 la premi\u00e8re canadienne de Private Jokes\/Public Places au Tarragon Theatre. Parmi ses projets, mentionnons la com\u00e9die musicale plusieurs fois prim\u00e9e Anything That Moves , d\u2019Ann-Marie MacDonald et du compositeur Allen Cole, SIBS , de Diane Flacks et Richard Greenblatt, une cr\u00e9ation qui fera ensuite une tourn\u00e9e canadienne, et Smudge , d\u2019Alex Bulmer, la premi\u00e8re pi\u00e8ce professionnelle canadienne \u00e9crite par un dramaturge aveugle. Alisa a r\u00e9alis\u00e9 la mise en sc\u00e8ne de Goodnight Desdemona (Goodmorning Juliet) , interpr\u00e9t\u00e9e par l\u2019auteur, Ann-Marie MacDonald. Elle est \u00e9galement coauteur de The Attic, The Pearls &amp; 3 Fine Girls (Scirocco Press). Comme auteur dramatique, elle a re\u00e7u, pour ses \u0153uvres individuelles et collectives, deux prix Chalmers. Alisa fait aussi la mise en sc\u00e8ne d\u2019op\u00e9ras contemporains, dont le plus r\u00e9cent est Sirene\/Sirenes , une \u0153uvre chor\u00e9graphi\u00e9e, bilingue, interpr\u00e9t\u00e9e a cappella par six sopranos et produite par le Queen of Puddings Music Theatre. Elle est la cofondatrice et codirectrice de Froth Productions, une compagnie de performances interdisciplinaires dont les spectacles prim\u00e9s ont \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9sent\u00e9s dans des th\u00e9\u00e2tres, des s\u00e9minaires universitaires et des magasins en faillite.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">Cr\u00e9\u00e9 en 2001, le Prix Siminovitch de th\u00e9\u00e2tre porte le nom de Lou Siminovitch, un \u00e9minent scientifique, et de sa regrett\u00e9e \u00e9pouse Elinore, qui \u00e9tait dramaturge. Commandit\u00e9 par BMO Groupe financier, le prix de th\u00e9\u00e2tre annuel le plus richement dot\u00e9 du Canada est attribu\u00e9 en alternance, sur un cycle de trois ans, \u00e0 un metteur en sc\u00e8ne, \u00e0 un dramaturge et \u00e0 un sc\u00e9nographe. En 2001, ann\u00e9e de son lancement, le prix a \u00e9t\u00e9 remis au metteur en sc\u00e8ne Daniel Brooks; en 2002, il a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9cern\u00e9 \u00e0 la dramaturge Carole Fr\u00e9chette; en 2003, \u00e0 la sc\u00e9nographe Louise Campeau.
