Mais cet \u00e9t\u00e9, c\u2019est sur les rives du lac Ontario qu\u2019elle pose ses valises, en tant qu\u2019assistante conceptrice d\u2019\u00e9clairage au prestigieux Festival Shaw. Pas une baleine en vue.<\/p>\n<p>Cela dit, c\u2019est une belle occasion \u2014 absorber les enseignements de concepteurs lumi\u00e8re renomm\u00e9s comme Bonnie Beecher et Kevin Lamotte. Apprendre, par exemple, \u00e0 dialoguer avec les metteurs en sc\u00e8ne, ou \u00e0 \u201cfaire confiance au processus et avancer. Le d\u00e9tail viendra\u201d, comme le dit Nishioka en citant Lamotte avec admiration.<\/p>\n<p>Nishioka pense beaucoup \u00e0 la lumi\u00e8re. \u00c0 son arriv\u00e9e au Canada, elle se souvient avoir t\u00e2tonn\u00e9 dans les int\u00e9rieurs, cherchant plus de clart\u00e9. \u201cAu Japon,\u201d dit-elle, \u201con a des plafonniers dans toutes les pi\u00e8ces.\u201d Son int\u00e9r\u00eat englobe les concerts rock, la danse, le cin\u00e9ma, les \u00e9v\u00e9nements commerciaux, ainsi que le th\u00e9\u00e2tre. \u201cLa conception lumi\u00e8re, c\u2019est presque comme \u00eatre DJ pour la musique,\u201d s\u2019\u00e9merveille-t-elle, en repensant \u00e0 son stage aupr\u00e8s de la conceptrice Gigi Pedron, qui tourne avec Queens of the Stone Age. \u201c\u00c7a transforme la musique, c\u2019est certain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>La conception lumi\u00e8re peut sembler myst\u00e9rieuse, m\u00eame pour les initi\u00e9s du th\u00e9\u00e2tre, qui aper\u00e7oivent parfois le ou la conceptrice pour la premi\u00e8re fois lors d\u2019une r\u00e9p\u00e9tition g\u00e9n\u00e9rale, griffonnant des sch\u00e9mas \u00e9sot\u00e9riques sur une tablette. Apr\u00e8s avoir accroch\u00e9 \u2014 parfois \u2014 des centaines de projecteurs avec l\u2019\u00e9quipe technique, le v\u00e9ritable travail artistique commence. Le ou la conceptrice travaille souvent tard dans la nuit, s\u00e9lectionnant les instruments n\u00e9cessaires \u00e0 chaque top, r\u00e9glant l\u2019intensit\u00e9 et les fondus, m\u00e9langeant les couleurs sur une palette num\u00e9rique, et programmant des mouvements complexes en direct. C\u2019est un processus \u00e0 la fois hautement technique et soumis \u00e0 une forte pression temporelle \u2014 mais aussi instinctif et spontan\u00e9, une mani\u00e8re de peindre l\u2019histoire du spectacle avec la lumi\u00e8re.<\/p>\n<p>La lumi\u00e8re soutient le r\u00e9cit de multiples fa\u00e7ons, explique Nishioka. Elle peut \u00eatre r\u00e9aliste, nous faisant passer d\u2019une pi\u00e8ce baign\u00e9e de soleil \u00e0 une clairi\u00e8re \u00e9clair\u00e9e par la lune. Ou bien elle peut plonger dans la m\u00e9taphore, utilisant la couleur satur\u00e9e, le rythme et le contraste pour \u00e9lever un moment au-del\u00e0 du temps pr\u00e9sent. Derni\u00e8rement, Nishioka explore la th\u00e9orie des couleurs, en particulier l\u2019effet \u00e9motionnel des teintes. Elle \u00e9tudie l\u2019aquarelle pour ses infinies variations de nuances, de tons et de valeurs, et observe aussi comment la lumi\u00e8re est utilis\u00e9e de fa\u00e7on compositionnelle dans les tableaux figuratifs. Une lumi\u00e8re vive peut mettre en valeur un personnage central, a-t-elle remarqu\u00e9, mais quelqu\u2019un \u00e0 l\u2019arri\u00e8re-plan peut aussi \u00eatre subtilement \u00e9clair\u00e9. \u201cEt je ne veux pas perdre ce personnage en arri\u00e8re-plan,\u201d dit-elle, \u201ccar il pourrait devenir important dans une sc\u00e8ne suivante. J\u2019essaie d\u2019\u00e9clairer tout le monde !\u201d Elle rit. \u201cMais de fa\u00e7ons diff\u00e9rentes\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ce que Nishioka pr\u00e9f\u00e8re dans le travail th\u00e9\u00e2tral, ce sont les conversations, \u201cvoir les r\u00e9p\u00e9titions et \u00e9couter en cachette.\u201d Peut-\u00eatre en raison de son pass\u00e9 en danse, le rythme est crucial pour elle. Rien n\u2019est plus satisfaisant qu\u2019un top qui se termine exactement sur le mot vis\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>En tant qu\u2019artiste en d\u00e9but de carri\u00e8re, Nishioka conna\u00eet bien l\u2019incertitude financi\u00e8re. L\u2019ann\u00e9e de sa diplomation, la pand\u00e9mie a mis fin aux spectacles en direct pendant deux saisons. Elle s\u2019est tourn\u00e9e vers le cin\u00e9ma et la t\u00e9l\u00e9vision, et continue de travailler comme programmeuse dans les m\u00e9dias, la musique live, et plus r\u00e9cemment les \u00e9v\u00e9nements corporatifs, pour compenser les faibles revenus du th\u00e9\u00e2tre. Travailler \u00e0 la fois comme programmeuse et conceptrice \u00e0 travers autant de m\u00e9diums lui donne une perspective unique \u2014 et un avantage. \u201cJ\u2019ai plus de connaissances technologiques pour aider les concepteurs, et moi-m\u00eame,\u201d explique-t-elle, \u201c\u00e0 atteindre ce que je veux faire en conception lumi\u00e8re, avec des s\u00e9quences complexes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nishioka r\u00eave un jour d\u2019\u00e9clairer un ballet classique. Apr\u00e8s tout, c\u2019est par l\u00e0 qu\u2019elle a commenc\u00e9 \u2014 et maintenant qu\u2019elle a d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 un regard de conceptrice et une sensibilit\u00e9 \u00e0 la narration, nourrie par toutes ces conversations th\u00e9\u00e2trales \u2014 \u201cj\u2019adorerais essayer,\u201d dit-elle. <i>Swan Lake<\/i> or something.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pour l\u2019instant, elle puise son inspiration dans des endroits inattendus. Elle aime regarder des anim\u00e9s, en particulier les \u0153uvres du grand Hayao Miyazaki. \u201cIl accorde une telle attention \u00e0 la provenance de la lumi\u00e8re,\u201d s\u2019\u00e9merveille-t-elle, \u201cil cr\u00e9e de magnifiques ombres (\u2026) qu\u2019il utilise pour exprimer l\u2019\u00e9motion. On peut le voir sur le visage des personnages quand l\u2019\u00e9motion change.\u201d En contraste, elle cite la s\u00e9rie anim\u00e9e...&nbsp;<i>&nbsp;Mononoke<\/i>, \u201c\u00e0 l\u2019oppos\u00e9 complet de mon esth\u00e9tique,\u201d dit-elle, mais n\u00e9anmoins stimulante dans son chaos color\u00e9 et organis\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Mais c\u2019est dans la nature que Nishioka semble puiser le plus d\u2019inspiration. \u201cUne chose qui est compl\u00e8tement diff\u00e9rente au Japon, c\u2019est la lune,\u201d dit-elle. \u201cElle est plus blanche au Canada. Au Japon, on pense toujours \u00e0 la lune comme \u00e9tant jaune.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Une chose est certaine : peu importe d\u2019o\u00f9 elle vient, et o\u00f9 elle ira ensuite, Hina Nishioka regarde le monde entier les yeux grands ouverts \u2014 \u00e0 la lumi\u00e8re.<\/p>\n<p><i>Hina Nishioka est l\u2019une des laur\u00e9ates 2024 de la toute premi\u00e8re Bourse pour artistes \u00e9mergent\u00b7es de la Fondation du Prix Siminovitch.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Vanessa Porteous est artiste de th\u00e9\u00e2tre, r\u00e9alisatrice et autrice bas\u00e9e \u00e0 Calgary.
