  • Part 1 - The Nominee

    Please Note: Full-time employees and board trustees of the National Arts Centre are not eligible to be awarded the Siminovitch Prize, in any year during which they are actively serving the National Arts Centre.
  • All finalists are required to attend the Siminovitch Prize celebration of finalists. The prize winner and their chosen protege must also attend the laureate announcement and celebration. Finalists are also strongly encouraged to attend the laureate announcement and celebration. Both dates and locations will be confirmed by August 2020. Should travel be required, travel costs within Canada and accommodations for the event for finalists will be covered by the Siminovitch Prize Foundation. Requests for exceptional travel costs should be directed to the Siminovitch Prize Foundation. Should travel be required for the laureate and announcement and celebration, travel costs within Canada and accommodation will be covered by the National Arts Centre.

    Finalists should be prepared to participate in a mentorship activity organized by the Siminovitch Prize Foundation either in person or via a digital connection within the 12 month period following their selection as a finalist.

  • Nominators may only nominate one candidate per year.

    The nominator must provide a nomination letter (maximum 750 words) stating why the nominee should be considered for this award.

  • Part 4 - Nomination Materials

    All nominations for the 2020 Siminovitch Prize in Theatre for Playwriting must be submitted electronically using the form below. No additional materials will be considered.
  • An artist’s statement from the nominee (maximum 300 words).

  • A clear and up-to-date professional theatre résumé for the nominee that outlines his or her accomplishments in the area of playwriting, including information on the most noteworthy projects within the last 10 years. Indicate all relevant dates and names of producing theatres and organizations. At least three noteworthy projects within the last three years should be highlighted. Five pages maximum

  • One script of a play that has been professionally produced in Canada within the past 6 seasons (2014 or later). Include information on first production: producing theatre, date, cast, and creative team.

    In 2020 due to exceptional circumstances, a finished but unproduced play that was scheduled for premiere in a professional production in spring or summer 2020 (prior to July 13), but had to be canceled due to the pandemic, may be submitted.

  • No more than eight pages of printed support material containing comprehensive information on education and training, citations and other awards, as well as media clippings.

  • As an alternative method of submission, if your support materials as requested above are greater than the upload constraints, please assemble all the required material in a Dropbox folder and share the URL link for that folder here. You must keep this folder active until December 31, 2020.
  • Please provide no more than five letters. Avoid using a letter written for a different grant or submission process, or a letter that is no longer current.
