Volunteer with the Siminovitch Prize This Fall!
Over a three-year cycle, the Prix Siminovitch celebrates a professional director, playwright or designer who is an acknowledged leader in the theatre and whose work is transformative and influential. The largest theatre prize in the country, this award shines a spotlight on excellence and innovation in Canadian theatre with an annual prize worth $100,000.
The 2017 prize was awarded to playwright Marcus Youssef and protégé Christine Quintana. This year, the prize will be awarded to an outstanding theatre designer. The Prize shortlist is announced in September, with a celebration of the finalists on October 15 at Hart House, University of Toronto and the winner and protégé are announced on November 5 at the National Arts Centre, Ottawa.
We are seeking a fall student to join our team one day (or two half-days) per week from mid-September to mid-December to support us with prize communications and administration.
This role will primarily involve research on performing arts and cultural organizations and funding bodies in Canada, as well as event planning and database management to support administration of the Prize. Duties may also include:
- Tracking and logging traditional and social media coverage
- Content creation for e-marketing initiatives and social media
We are seeking a student who is passionate about the theatre arts, interested in learning more about prize management and communications, and a team player. Preferred skills include:
- Effective and professional communications, both written and verbal
- Proficient data management and organizational skills
Students who are research savvy, who are familiar with social media (Twitter, Facebook), WordPress, and MailChimp, and who have experience with event planning preferred.
The fall student will work alongside a team of dedicated professionals working to raise awareness for this prize and for Canadian theatre artists. Benefits include:
