Jean-Denis Leduc has been Artistic Director of Théâtre de La Manufacture since its creation in 1975. Originally a collective company, Jean-Denis became its General Manager and Artistic Director in 1997 as well as that of its performance space, La Licorne. In 2010-2011, Jean-Denis oversaw the construction of a magnificent new building, with two flexible spaces of 180 and 100 seats, on rue Papineau, in the heart of Plateau Mont-Royal and La Licorne has become a major theatrical space in Montréal.
At the helm of La Manufacture, Jean-Denis Leduc has showcased powerful work by contemporary playwrights, from Canada and elsewhere, whose plays question the world in which we live. By touring throughout Québec and francophone Canada, the company has gained renown across the country. In 2009, Jean-Denis Leduc was awarded the Hommage RIDEAU (le Réseau indépendant des diffuseurs d’évènements artistiques unis). Today, as part-time founding director, he develops new projects while acting as Artistic Director on some productions. He also works as dramaturg for playwrights in residence, while overseeing the international development of the company.
