Notes on the Nomination Form:

To assist the jury in their work, please be specific about what makes your nominee a potential Siminovitch Prize Laureate. Use all parts of the nomination package to tell a detailed story. The jury wants to know: what is it about the nominee’s work that is breaking new ground and/or enriching the art form? In what specific ways is this artist’s work unique and outstanding? You might discuss practice, technique, innovation, collaboration, and other aspects of the artistic process. The jury members may not be familiar with this artist’s trajectory or development; help the jury understand how your nominee’s practice and artistry have developed over time and how they are making a remarkable contribution to theatre in Canada. Point out distinct moments, features, elements, changes, shifts, discoveries etc. Choose images and or support material that help tell this story.

Part 3 - Nomination

Part 4 - Nomination Materials

All nominations for the 2026 Siminovitch Prize must be submitted electronically using the form below. No additional materials will be considered.

Nominee's Statement*

An artist’s statement from the nominee (maximum one page). Documents longer than one page will not be accepted.

Nominee’s Résumé*

A clear and up-to-date professional theatre résumé that outlines the nominee’s accomplishments over a minimum of the last ten years. Highlight at least three noteworthy theatre projects within the last six years (2020 – 2026). Please indicate all relevant dates of production and names of producing theatres and organizations. Four pages maximum. Documents longer than four pages will not be accepted.

Nominee’s Support Material*

A maximum of six pages of support material (citations and awards, media clippings, critique and analysis, production shots, and so on) can be included in the nomination package. If submitting media clippings, please select or highlight only passages relevant to the work of the nominee. If submitting archival material such as print media, please ensure it is legible to the jurors. All material must be contained within the six pages. No links leading to additional material will be accepted.

Nominee’s Letters of Recommendation*

Please provide up to four letters. Each can be a maximum of two pages. Video statements of no more than two minutes may be submitted instead of letters.

Brief Biography of Nominee*

To be used for publicity purposes. No more than 150 words.

Nominee's Photo/Headshot*

A photograph/headshot of the nominee to be used for the purposes of publicity. The image should be high-resolution (300dpi) and at least 1000 pixels wide.

Part 5 - Creative Material

No more than 50 pages/minutes of cumulative creative material may be included. These 50 pages/minutes can be made up of, in any combination, a portfolio, script samples, notes on script samples, video files, sound files, and notes on video/sound files, totaling no more than 50 pages/minutes. If more than 50 pages/minutes of material are submitted, the package will be rendered ineligible. The jury prioritizes samples from works of theatre. Submissions of work on dance, music, and other performance disciplines are admissible, but will not be weighed as heavily against theatrical productions.

Portfolio

In one document, please include images of noteworthy past works, with brief descriptions indicating the date, production, theatre, and director. Highlight the artist’s trajectory over time with the examples you choose. Tell the jury about the intent of the nominee’s choices and be specific about their significance. Make sure the nominee’s contributions are clearly identified, and credit other artists whose work is shown in the image. You may include production stills, storyboards, concept sketches. Maximum of 15 pages/screens.

Video files

Please include samples of noteworthy past works. Please prioritize archival video over promotional trailers. A maximum of five samples, no more than five minutes in length each. If the file you provide is longer, please indicate at what minute of the file jurors should start and stop watching. If no indication is given, jurors will watch five minutes from the beginning of the track. Video files must be MOV or MP4 format and contained in a ZIP file.

Sound files

Please include samples of noteworthy past works. A maximum of three samples, no more than five minutes in length each. If the file you provide is longer, please indicate at what minute of the file jurors should start and stop listening. If no indication is given, jurors will listen to five minutes from the beginning of the track. Audio files must be MP3 or M4A format and contained in a ZIP file.

Notes on video/sound files

For each sample submitted, please list date, production, and theatre. Make sure the nominee’s design contribution is clear in each case, and highlight the significance or intent of the choices. For sound files, please provide context to assist the jury in understanding the audio’s contribution to what is on stage. Two pages maximum.

Script Samples

Up to three script samples from plays that have been professionally produced in Canada within the past 15 years, totalling no more than forty five pages*. The samples should provide evidence of the growth and development of the nominee’s work. Include information on the premiere production: producing theatre, date, cast, and creative team. Samples exceeding a total of forty five pages will not be accepted.

*The jury reserves the right to request further material from the nominator, eg. a complete script.

Script Sample Notes

Please guide the jury by explaining why these particular samples were chosen. What does each sample reveal about the artist and their work? What should the jury be looking for in these samples? These notes are an opportunity to provide evidence for the statements made in the nomination letter/form. Two pages maximum. Documents longer than two pages will not be accepted.
