It is with great sadness that the Siminovitch Prize Foundation shares the news of the passing of Anne Nenarokoff-Van Burek on February 12, 2022 after a long battle with cancer. Professionally, Anne was a gifted writer, teacher and translator – a most elegant and sensitive sculptor of words. As of about 10 years ago, Anne and her husband John became part of the Siminovitch Prize team, a small coterie of individuals who made it possible for the Prize to thrive and continue to support excellence and innovation in the theatre artist community in this country. We who worked with Anne over the last decade are so grateful for her contributions and we are even more grateful for having had the opportunity to get to know this wonderfully talented and vibrant individual. Our hearts go out to John, Nicolas, their family and Anne’s many friends, colleagues and students at this sad time.
Should you wish to honour Anne’s memory, The Pleiades Theatre has set up The Anne and John Van Burek Fund for Translation of Plays Into English.
