Anna Cummer is an award-winning actor and playwright. Her 20-year acting career has taken her across Canada performing at The Vancouver Playhouse, The Arts Club, Bard on the Beach, Theatre Calgary, Alberta Theatre Projects, Vertigo Theatre, Persephone Theatre, and the National Arts Centre (English Theatre). She has been honoured with over 15 nominations for her acting with a handful of awards making their way to her mantle.

Anna is also a voice-over artist and has had the great pleasure of voicing for Disney, Hasbro, Nickelodeon, and Bandai, to name a few. She works in film and television as both an on-screen actor and puppeteer, the reboot of Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock being the latest addition to her filmography.

On a dare, she began writing in 2018, finding a real penchant for literary adaptations and original screenplays for young audiences. Her plays, all adaptations with a twist, have been produced by The Shakespeare Company, Alberta Theatre Projects, Vertigo Theatre, The Richmond Gateway, and Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. In film, she has been nominated for an AMPIA award for screenwriting.

As Associate Artistic Director at Theatre Calgary, she moved into arts administration post-pandemic. This new role has her managing a literary department, expanding audience experiences through wrap-around programming, and facilitating opportunities and growth for Calgary’s theatre community. She has also begun exploring the art of direction with her methodology firmly rooted in collaboration and play. For Anna, the next adventure might just be behind the scenes rather than centre stage.

It is a great honour and privilege for Anna to sit on the 2026 Siminovitch Prize jury and be newly inspired by the amazing work being done in theatre from coast-to-coast.
