Biography
Mieko trained at the University of Alberta’s BFA Acting Program and the National Screen Institute in Canada. Her plays The Red Priest (Eight Ways To Say Goodbye), The Blue Light, The Dada Play, Nisei Blue, I Am For You, The Bully Project, Consent, The Silver Arrow and Burning Mom have been translated into six languages, been read at The Playwrights Laboratory Int’l Reading Series at the Arcola in London, HotInk Int’l Reading Festival at The Lark in NY, the Chekhov Int’l Theatre Festival in Moscow, and been finalists for the 4 Play Series at The Old Vic, the Governor General’s Literary Award, the Gwen Pharis Ringwood Award, the City of Edmonton Book Prize and recognized with the Carol Bolt Prize, Betty Awards and the Enbridge Award for Established Canadian Playwright. This September Mieko will receive the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta 2023 Distinguished Artist Award, the fourth theatre artist in the history of the prize.
