Biography

Martha Henry was considered one of Canada’s greatest actors. She had a long association with the Stratford Festival and with regional theatres across the country. She also won five Genie Awards and four Gemini Awards for her work in film and television. A Companion of the Order of Canada, she received the Toronto Drama Bench Award for Outstanding Contribution to Canadian Theatre, a Governor General’s Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Achievement, the Order of Ontario, and honorary degrees from numerous Canadian universities.

Keith Turnbull

Biography

Keith Turnbull is a director, dramaturge, and producer committed to contemporary and new work in theatre and opera. He was artistic director of the Manitoba Theatre Centre; of Second Stage, Neptune Theatre; and founding artistic director of the NDWT Co., a First Nations theatre company from which emerged many of Canada’s most noted native performers and writers. He is the past artistic director/executive producer of Banff Theatre Arts. He has taught extensively throughout Canada. He has directed more than ninety plays in theatres across Canada and opera/music theatre in Canada, Wales, Sweden, and the US.

Diana Leblanc

Biography

Diana Leblanc is a Canadian television and film actress, best known to US audiences for her portrayal of Frannie Halcyon in the TV miniseries More Tales of the City (1998) and its follow-up Further Tales of the City (2001). These miniseries were sequels to Tales of the City (1994), which starred Nina Foch in the role of Frannie.

In 2015, Leblanc received a Governor General’s Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement, Canada’s highest honour in the performing arts, for her work in theatre. She has also received the Gascon-Thomas Award from the National Theatre School of Canada and a Gemini Award.

Mary Kerr

Biography

Mary Kerr has a distinguished career in Canadian and international theatre, dance, opera, feature film and television, as well as exhibition and special events design. As a production designer she has created for such companies as The Canadian Opera Company, The Paris Opera Ballet, The Royal Winnipeg Ballet, The New Zealand Opera, the Danny Grossman Dance Company, The National Ballet of Canada, The Shaw and The Stratford Festivals, and most of this country’s regional theatres. She was Production Designer for the 1994 Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Commonwealth Games in Victoria.

Professional acknowledgements include seven Dora Mavor Moore Awards (14 nominations), three Sterling Awards, A Houston Film Award, and 5 Gemini and Gemineaux nominations. Mary has represented Canada at such juried international design competitions as the Prague Quadrennial (1983, 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2019), and been a finalist in World Stage 2005 (Toronto), and 2009 (Seoul, Korea). Mary is one of seven designers featured in Natalie Rewa’s Scenography in Canada (U of T Press, 2004).

Luc Boulanger

Biography

Détenteur d’un certificat de deuxième cycle en journalisme, c’est d’abord avec sa plume que Luc Boulanger s’est démarqué. Il a écrit une cinquantaine de pièces de théâtre qui sont diffusées dans internet et jouées partout sur la planète ; de Fermont au Kirghizistan, en passant par Singapour et Genève.

Il est cofondateur de la troupe de théâtre Animagination qui présente depuis plus de 30 ans des spectacles pour jeune public. En plus de concevoir les pièces, il est également comédien. La troupe se produit entre 50 et 100 fois par année au Québec et dans la francophonie canadienne. Animagination a eu la chance de travailler avec l’auteur Dominique Demers pour la conception et la présentation d’une pièce de théâtre mettant en vedette le personnage de Mademoiselle Charlotte.

Carlo Guillermo Proto is a Chilean-Canadian director who was raised in both Quillota, Chile and Mississauga, Ontario. His work focuses on the unique interplay between identity and human experience in relation to issues of geography, ethnicity, and perceived disabilities.

Biography

Valerie Moore is a celebrated director, choreographer and teacher whose work has been seen across Canada, the U.S. and abroad. Originally from Montreal and educated in both Quebec and Ontario, she has been connected with many of Canada’s most prestigious theatres, including The Shaw Festival, The Stratford Festival, London’s Grand Theatre, Charlottetown Festival, Theatre Calgary, Banff Centre, Centaur Theatre, the National Arts Centre, Vancouver Playhouse, Tarragon Theatre as well as the Canadian Opera Company and Opera Ontario.

Katrina Dunn

Biography

Director, artistic director and producer, born and based in Vancouver British Columbia. Katrina Dunn trained in dance at Simon Fraser University and at the National Theatre School of Canada. She completed an MA in Theatre Studies at the University of British Columbia, and a PhD program in Theatre Studies at UBC, exploring the spatial manifestations of theatre in the downtown core of Vancouver: how they reflect the economic flows of capital and property in the city since 1950; and how they have impacted local urban and cultural landscapes, for which she was awarded a CSN-RÉC 2021 Best PhD Dissertation in Canadian Studies Prize. She also has taught acting at UBC and Studio 58. She is currently teaching in the Theatre Program at the University of Manitoba.

Vicki Stroich

Biography

Vicki Stroich is Interim Artistic Director this season at Alberta Theatre Projects. She is also Artistic Associate – Festival where she has been a member of the Artistic Team for over 11 years. Vicki’s focus at ATP is dramaturgy and programming for the Enbridge playRites Festival of New Canadian Plays. She freelances as a dramaturg, facilitator, and director. Her work has included dramaturgy of dramatic text, devised theatre and performance creation. Vicki is President of the Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas and was Conference Chair of the international 2010 LMDA Conference in Banff. She is the proud recipient of a Betty Mitchell Award for Outstanding Achievement for her contributions to new work.

Paul Lefebvre

Biography

Paul Lefebvre, qui travaille comme conseiller dramaturgique au Centre des auteurs dramatiques, est aussi traducteur, conférencier et professeur de théâtre. Auparavant, il a été en poste près de dix ans au Centre national des Arts à Ottawa où il a été l’adjoint artistique au Théâtre français auprès de Denis Marleau et attaché artistique général et directeur artistique fondateur de la biennale Zones Théâtrales. Au cours des années 1990, il a été le directeur littéraire du Théâtre Denise-Pelletier à Montréal et codirecteur artistique du Théâtre Teesri Duniya. À ce jour, il a traduit dix-neuf pièces dont Un tramway nommé Désir de Tennessee Williams, Danser à Lughnasa de Brian Friel, Unity, mil neuf cent dix-huit de Kevin Kerr et Macbeth de William Shakespeare. Il est l’auteur de nombreuses publications dans des périodiques spécialisés en théâtre et a enseigné entre autres à l’Université de Montréal, à l’Université du Québec à Montréal, à l’Option Théâtre du Collège Lionel-Groulx et à l’École nationale de théâtre du Canada.

Patricia Hamilton

Biography

Patricia Hamilton was a Canadian actress who played Rachel Lynde in the television mini-series Anne of Green Gables, its sequels: Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel, Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story, and Anne of Green Gables: A New Beginning, and several Anne of Green Gables related films (such as Road to Avonlea). 

Hamilton also provided the voice of the character for PBS’ animated series Anne of Green Gables. She was nominated for a Gemini Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Dramatic Series three times, winning in 1996. Hamilton attended Pittsburgh’s Carnegie Tech She was also part of Tarragon Theatre’s inaugural season in 1971.

Leonard McHardy

Biography

Leonard started his life in the theatre as an actor, director and administrator. In the late 70’s at the behest of its then director, he worked at Stratford in press and public relations. In 1975, he founded, with his life partner John Harvey, the now seminal and legendary TheatreBooks. More than simply a store, TheatreBooks was a heart and hub for Toronto’s theatre and performing arts community. For over 40 years, hundreds of members of Canada’s performing arts community moved through its doors – reading, learning, working, finding and creating works that have filled stages across Canada. Leonard joined the board of Necessary Angel in 2004 and was appointed its chair. He served for twelve years, after which he joined the Necessary Angel team, where today, he does development work and serves as our invaluable, one-of-a-kind, eminence-grise.
