Biography

Journalist and theater critic, Luc Boulanger has been covering cultural news since 1990. He joined the daily newspaper La Presse in 2011. He headed the Arts and Entertainment section of the newspaper Voir from 1991 to 2002. He has also written for the Journal de Montréal and collaborated with the newspaper Le Devoir, in addition to signing many reports, articles, and profiles for magazines such as Châtelaine, L’actualité, ELLE Québec, Clin d’œil, etc.

From 2002 to 2010, he was the editor-in-chief of “VIA destinations,” the bilingual onboard magazine of VIA Rail. Luc Boulanger has also published “Pièces à conviction,” a book of interviews with author Michel Tremblay, and “Médecin de cœur, homme d’action,” the biography of Dr. Réjean Thomas.

Biography

Carlo Guillermo Proto is a Chilean-Canadian director who was raised in both Quillota, Chile and Mississauga, Ontario. His work focuses on the unique interplay between identity and human experience in relation to issues of geography, ethnicity, and perceived disabilities.

Biography

Valerie Moore is a celebrated director, choreographer and teacher whose work has been seen across Canada, the U.S. and abroad. Originally from Montreal and educated in both Quebec and Ontario, she has been connected with many of Canada’s most prestigious theatres, including The Shaw Festival, The Stratford Festival, London’s Grand Theatre, Charlottetown Festival, Theatre Calgary, Banff Centre, Centaur Theatre, the National Arts Centre, Vancouver Playhouse, Tarragon Theatre as well as the Canadian Opera Company and Opera Ontario.

Katrina Dunn

Biography

Director, artistic director and producer, born and based in Vancouver British Columbia. Katrina Dunn trained in dance at Simon Fraser University and at the National Theatre School of Canada. She completed an MA in Theatre Studies at the University of British Columbia, and a PhD program in Theatre Studies at UBC, exploring the spatial manifestations of theatre in the downtown core of Vancouver: how they reflect the economic flows of capital and property in the city since 1950; and how they have impacted local urban and cultural landscapes, for which she was awarded a CSN-RÉC 2021 Best PhD Dissertation in Canadian Studies Prize. She also has taught acting at UBC and Studio 58. She is currently teaching in the Theatre Program at the University of Manitoba.

Vicki Stroich

Biography

Vicki Stroich is Interim Artistic Director this season at Alberta Theatre Projects. She is also Artistic Associate – Festival where she has been a member of the Artistic Team for over 11 years. Vicki’s focus at ATP is dramaturgy and programming for the Enbridge playRites Festival of New Canadian Plays. She freelances as a dramaturg, facilitator, and director. Her work has included dramaturgy of dramatic text, devised theatre and performance creation. Vicki is President of the Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas and was Conference Chair of the international 2010 LMDA Conference in Banff. She is the proud recipient of a Betty Mitchell Award for Outstanding Achievement for her contributions to new work.

Paul Lefebvre

Biography

Paul Lefebvre, qui travaille comme conseiller dramaturgique au Centre des auteurs dramatiques, est aussi traducteur, conférencier et professeur de théâtre. Auparavant, il a été en poste près de dix ans au Centre national des Arts à Ottawa où il a été l’adjoint artistique au Théâtre français auprès de Denis Marleau et attaché artistique général et directeur artistique fondateur de la biennale Zones Théâtrales. Au cours des années 1990, il a été le directeur littéraire du Théâtre Denise-Pelletier à Montréal et codirecteur artistique du Théâtre Teesri Duniya. À ce jour, il a traduit dix-neuf pièces dont Un tramway nommé Désir de Tennessee Williams, Danser à Lughnasa de Brian Friel, Unity, mil neuf cent dix-huit de Kevin Kerr et Macbeth de William Shakespeare. Il est l’auteur de nombreuses publications dans des périodiques spécialisés en théâtre et a enseigné entre autres à l’Université de Montréal, à l’Université du Québec à Montréal, à l’Option Théâtre du Collège Lionel-Groulx et à l’École nationale de théâtre du Canada.

Patricia Hamilton

Biography

Patricia Hamilton was a Canadian actress who played Rachel Lynde in the television mini-series Anne of Green Gables, its sequels: Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel, Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story, and Anne of Green Gables: A New Beginning, and several Anne of Green Gables related films (such as Road to Avonlea). 

Hamilton also provided the voice of the character for PBS’ animated series Anne of Green Gables. She was nominated for a Gemini Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Dramatic Series three times, winning in 1996. Hamilton attended Pittsburgh’s Carnegie Tech She was also part of Tarragon Theatre’s inaugural season in 1971.

Leonard McHardy

Biography

Leonard started his life in the theatre as an actor, director and administrator. In the late 70’s at the behest of its then director, he worked at Stratford in press and public relations. In 1975, he founded, with his life partner John Harvey, the now seminal and legendary TheatreBooks. More than simply a store, TheatreBooks was a heart and hub for Toronto’s theatre and performing arts community. For over 40 years, hundreds of members of Canada’s performing arts community moved through its doors – reading, learning, working, finding and creating works that have filled stages across Canada. Leonard joined the board of Necessary Angel in 2004 and was appointed its chair. He served for twelve years, after which he joined the Necessary Angel team, where today, he does development work and serves as our invaluable, one-of-a-kind, eminence-grise.

Mieko Ouchi

Biography

Mieko trained at the University of Alberta’s BFA Acting Program and the National Screen Institute in Canada. Her plays The Red Priest (Eight Ways To Say Goodbye), The Blue Light, The Dada Play, Nisei Blue, I Am For You, The Bully Project, Consent, The Silver Arrow and Burning Mom have been translated into six languages, been read at The Playwrights Laboratory Int’l Reading Series at the Arcola in London, HotInk Int’l Reading Festival at The Lark in NY, the Chekhov Int’l Theatre Festival in Moscow, and been finalists for the 4 Play Series at The Old Vic, the Governor General’s Literary Award, the Gwen Pharis Ringwood Award, the City of Edmonton Book Prize and recognized with the Carol Bolt Prize, Betty Awards and the Enbridge Award for Established Canadian Playwright. This September Mieko will receive the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta 2023 Distinguished Artist Award, the fourth theatre artist in the history of the prize.

Sue LePage

Sue LePage

Biography

Sue LePage is a Canadian set designer and costume designer based in Toronto. She has designed for over 100 theatre productions including ballet and opera. 

After graduating university, LePage’s first job in the field was as a junior production assistant for a short time at the Stratford Festival. Soon after, she went to Scotland to attend a program affiliated with the Edinburgh Festival.

Her designs have since appeared in many other notable theatres and theatre festivals in Canada: Shaw Festival: Tarragon Theatre, Grand Theatre, Nightwood Theatre, Citadel Theatre, Banff Centre for the Arts, Canadian Stage, National Arts Centre, Soulpepper, Young People’s Theatre, Elgin and Winter Garden Theatres, Factory Theatre.

Kevin Kerr

Biography

Kevin Kerr is a Canadian playwright, actor, director and founding member of Electric Company Theatre. From 2007 to 2010, he was Lee Playwright in Residence at University of Alberta. 

He was born in Vancouver and grew up in Kamloops, British Columbia. He studied theatre at the University of British Columbia, and at Studio 58, Langara College.

He has co-authored several plays with the Electric Company Theatre based in Vancouver, British Columbia including The Wake, The Score, Dora Flor and Her Two Husbands, Flop, The Fall, and Brilliant! The Blinding Enlightenment of Nikola Tesla. His 2001 play Unity (1918) explores the Influenza epidemic of 1918 and won the 2002 Governor General’s Award for Drama.

Meredith Caron

Biography

Avec plus de 150 collaborations à son actif, Mérédith Caron est assurément l’un des chefs de file dans le domaine de la création de costumes. Depuis le début de sa carrière à la fin des années soixante-dix, elle crée principalement pour le théâtre, le cinéma et l’opéra. Elle travaille avec des metteurs en scène émérites dont Pierre Bernard, Serge Denoncourt, Robert Lepage, Martine Beaulne, Denise Guilbault, René Richard Cyr, André Brassard et Daniele Finzi Pasca, de même qu’avec Richard Monette au prestigieux Stratford Festival. Elle a aussi conçu les costumes de spectacles très remarqués dont Nomade et Rain pour le Cirque Éloize et le spectacle Criss Angel-Believe du Cirque du Soleil, à Las Vegas. L’excellence de son travail lui a valu d’être lauréate de nombreux prix importants tels qu’un Gémeaux, cinq Gascon-Roux et deux Masques. Mérédith Caron enseigne l’histoire de l’art et la conception de costumes à l’École nationale de théâtre du Canada depuis une quinzaine d’années et plus récemment à l’université Concordia.
